Football: Israel is certainly not known for its sporting achievements. 
The national football team has come close to qualifying for several major tournaments, but has always fallen at the last hurdle. In the recent play-off game for The European Championship, Israel lost 0-5 at home to Denmark. Locally, there is a vibrant league, which is highly competitive year after year, with no single team dominating. Jerusalem has a brand new stadium which seats 21,000 spectators. 
 Basketball: In European terms, Israel is certainly a force to be 
reckoned with. The National team rarely misses the European Finals. At the team level, Israel has one team that has dominated local league for the past 20 years. Maccabi Tel-Aviv represents Israel year after in the European League, and even won the trophy twice in 1977and 1980. Hapoel  Jerusalem is the country's second ranked team.

Running : Israel has plenty of other sports enthusiasts. Running is a very popular pastime. Jerusalem has its own running club containing details of upcoming competitions.
